MESHMASS 2021

we have been turned upside-down, like the world. since half of us has fled the country of origin and departed to a strange land where people speak french and know nothing of MESHMASS we are no longer able to assemble weekly and punish the air with our noxious ramblings; instead we must communicate through the invisible network concealed magically in the ether, and this has resulted in upside-downness.... to whit (to woo) now the basic tracks are created by Mr Richard Miles in Lewes instead of by Dr. Peter Pick. Mr Miles uses guitars of various sorts and keyboards instead of computer software and records his pieces which are then transmitted to Dr Peter Pick in the Mayenne, where he damages them and sends them back.

Everything is upside down. The pieces are no longer initiated on ableton and then manifested live in the room in the presence of and with the participation of both members. Instead they are created and overdubbed in separate places with a physical and temporal distance. The very act of MESHMASS is irrevocably altered. We maintain the element of improvisation only by neglecting to rehearse.

Nevertheless it is still MESHMASS. It bears more relation to the MESHMASS made as an improvising duo than to the MESHMASS of software generation, but it remains MESHMASS, and not just because we say so.... there is something MESHMASSy about it.
